Romain Beck
Romain (he/him) approaches filmmaking with a multidisciplinary perspective, blending a background in physical theatre (Lecoq pedagogy) and Fine Art. With over a decade of experience as a film editor, he has worked on acclaimed projects such as the feature-length documentary Mother Vera, which won the Grierson Award at the London Film Festival in 2024 and the Creativity Media First Look Award at the 2023 Locarno Festival. He was also part of the editing team for the award-winning documentary Much Ado About Dying, which earned Best Director at IDFA 2022. In 2024, he made his first directorial debut with The Backstreet, a short documentary exploring four decades of queer history through the lens of the iconic club of the same name. The film was selected for international competition at Sheffield DocFest. He is currently part of the Sheffield DocFest Queer Realities Director Lab with his project The Next Line is a Secret.
